Professor Ajesola Majekodunmi, founder of Ajesola Solarin Majekodunmi Foundation (ASMAF) said that the intent of the project is to ensure that future generation of women are well empowered educationally and economically to raise children with better future, particularly the girl-child.

Professor Majekodumi, a Professor of Ophthalmology declared: “I want to be remembered as a woman who had an opportunity at carrying her grown to town to ensure that future generation of women are well empowered educationally and economically and grow up to be nation builders”.

In line with the motto of ASMAF which is “Train a woman and empower mankind Professor Majektum sad ASMAF was founded in recognition of the fact that developing the potential of the girl-child would move the country to greater heights as women carry more responsibilities and more economic viability for development of womanhood

She said she was extremely fulfilled that ASMAF had trained and produced about seventeen (17) graduates in various disciplines who would not have had such oportunities due to various constraints and challenges that would have limited their potentials, adding that “ASMAF is trainig builders and future leaders” in their own rights.

Train A Woman, Empower Mankind

AJESOLA SOLARIN MAJEKODUNMI FOUNDATION (ASMAF) is a non-profit non-governmental organization founded and duly registered under the laws of Nigeria, dedicated to raising funds for, and awarding scholarships to bright but financially handicapped young Nigerian females for tertiary level education in professional courses, and leadership and life skills development.

The scholarship award covers financial assistance for a professional course of study at a public Nigerian University, and for life skills and leadership development programmes. It also provides for access to useful information and tools that encourage academic excellence and lifelong learning.

The goal of ASMAF is to promote, facilitate and contribute to the development of qualitative female Nigerian professionals and leaders. The combination of approaches and the structured support of this programme differentiate it from typical scholarship awards in Nigeria. In providing these awards, ASMAF will achieve the following objectives:

TRANSITION

The news has been received of the death of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Ajesola Solarin Majekodunmi Foundation (ASMAF) in the person of Emeritus Professor Olusoga Sofola, FAS.

Emeritus Prof Olusoga A. Sofola obtained MB.BS. (1972), from University of Lagos and PhD (1978) from Leeds University. He taught Physiology at the University of Lagos, from 1973 and became Professor in 1984. He was British Heart Foundation Fellow at the Cardiovascular Research Institute, University of Leeds, UK from 1998 to 2000. He was one time Provost College of Medicine and Deputy Vice Chancellor, University of Lagos and was appointed Emeritus Professor in 2015. He was also Acting Vice Chancellor, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ogun State.

As the Chairman of ASMAF’s Board, Prof Sofola freely deployed his resources including his wide clout in and out of the academia to assist with the actualization of the Foundation in impacting on the lives of brilliant but indigent female undergraduates.

Professor Sofola was a founding member and a Fellow of the Physiological Society of Nigeria. He was also the immediate past President of Association of African Physiological Sciences (AAPS). He was also a Fellow and former Treasurer of Nigerian Academy of Science.
